The deal involved two of the three largest players in the market which led the OFT to believe that the deal might harm competition. Despite this, and the fact that there were a number of complaints, the deal was cleared unconditionally.
Our client was successful in a competitive auction for the Friends Reunited business. We were instructed after the matter had been referred to the Competition Commission, at which point we successfully argued that various assumptions and conclusions of the OFT were incorrect. Consequently we managed to secure unconditional clearance for the deal.
