Advertising practices - investigation by the OFT

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has recently announced that it is to conduct a market study looking at the impact on consumers from potentially misleading advertising.

In particular, the OFT intends to evaluate which advertising and pricing practices are most detrimental to consumers, with a particular focus on the impact that the internet has had on the market as well as the use of targeted advertising that uses consumers' personal data and internet habits to determine adverts that consumers' receive electronically.
