Equality Bill 2009 – what does it mean for UK employers? eBulletin
The Government recently published its new Equality Bill. The stated aim of the Bill is two-fold: to co-ordinate the current unwieldy collection of discrimination legislation in the UK and to push forward the Government's agenda for social change. Harriet Harman, Minister for Women and Equality, has said that the aim of the Bill is to '...make Britain stronger, fairer and more equal' and, perhaps more directly relevant to UK employers, '...shine the spotlight in every workplace on the hidden pay discrimination against women'.
In this special edition of our employment eBulletin we will explain some of the likely effects of the Equality Bill on UK employers. We then focus on the Government's aim of tackling inequality between numbers of female and male directors of UK listed companies.
