Community action

Our recognition of our wider responsibilities to the community translates through our participation in a number of projects that strive to improve services within local communities.

Here are some of the organisations we have been involved with throughout the past year:

  • Newham Education Business Partnership, through its links with business and the community, helps young people in Newham schools and colleges develop the skills and qualities needed for the world of work.  For a number of years they have organised a mentoring scheme whereby members of our firm mentor pupils at two schools, Forest Gate and Langdon School, both located in east London.  Each year mentors from our firm are matched with students aged between 14 and 16, on a one-to-one basis.  They help the students by discussing relevant career issues and exploring problems which they may encounter.  We believe our work makes an important contribution to enable young people from this area, whose horizons may be limited, to raise their own expectations and aspirations in life.
  • Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity raises money to enable Great Ormond Street Hospital to provide world-class care for its young patients and their families.  Over a number of years, volunteers from our firm have assisted the charity in a number of ways from a variety of fundraising initiatives including collecting donations and participating in individual sponsored activities.
  • Cambridge House is a charity based in Camberwell which seeks to alleviate the local effects of poverty and is working to support social change.  In partnership with Cambridge House we operate a debt advice scheme.  The scheme provides free legal and practical advice to families and individuals within the neighbourhood who cannot afford legal representation.
  • The Connection at St Martin-in-the Fields is one of the largest and busiest homelessness organisations in the UK, strategically located in Trafalgar Square.  We assist the charity on a number of projects, including CV/interview workshops and collections for its clients (books, work clothes, Christmas presents etc).
  • Social Mobility Foundation supports high-achieving young people from low-income backgrounds into the top universities and professions.  Each summer we invite interns from SMF to spend time at the firm to gain experience of our work.
