Andrew joined the firm in 2003 and became a partner in 2008. He advises on a wide variety of general corporate tax and VAT matters, particularly taxation issues in the context of acquisitions and disposals of public and private companies.

Recent highlights include advising:

  • Pernod Ricard on its takeover of Allied Domecq for £7bn and subsequent transfer of certain brands to Fortune Brands, and on its acquisition of Swedish company Vin & Sprit for €5.6bn;
  • Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional on its £6.6bn pre-conditional offer for UK steelmaker Corus;
  • HeidelbergCement on its £8bn takeover of UK building materials company Hanson plc;
  • Groupe Norbert Dentressangle on its £254m takeover of UK logistics company Christian Salvesen;
  • on the sale of Blackwell Publishing to Wiley for £572m;
  • on the sale of Pret a Manger to Bridgepoint for £345m;
  • on the sale of back office systems provider SmartStream to Dubai International Financial Centre for £200m;
  • on the flotation of business travel services company Hogg Robinson with an initial market capitalisation of £275m;
  • on the flotation of investment company Partners Group Global Opportunities, raising €400m;
  • on the establishment of the £1.1bn RBS Special Opportunities Fund, including the transfer of a seed portfolio of private equity investments from Royal Bank of Scotland;
  • Marriott on its participation in a hotels joint venture with Whitbread and the subsequent sale of the joint venture company to Royal Bank of Scotland for £951m;
  • Four Seasons Health Care in connection with the restructuring of its £1.4bn debt facilities; and
  • Consortium Investment Management in connection with a number of projects, including residential property and development funds, and facilitating the equity provision for an offering of commercial mortgage backed securities.
