Willie qualified with Macfarlanes in 1980 and spent a year seconded to the litigation department of the US law firm, Fulbright & Jaworski. He became a partner in 1987 and was head of litigation and dispute resolution from 2000 to 2008.

He specialises particularly in general commercial disputes and contentious property matters. He also deals regularly with employment, trust, insurance and defamation disputes.

He heads the firm's property litigation group.

Recent highlights include:

• contested rent reviews of commercial premises, disputes under the Agricultural Holdings legislation and enforcement of contracts for the sale of land;
• advising companies and individuals on the contentious aspects of employment law, particularly disputes involving restrictive covenants and breaches of duty;
• covering warranty claims arising out of sale and acquisition agreements, contractual disputes and claims involving private international law; and
• involvement in a number of statutory and non-statutory inquiries.
