Data privacy

Overview

In response to the all-pervasive influence of data use in modern business, we advise clients in all spheres of industry on data privacy matters. Whether it’s in relation to a wider global strategy, international transfer issues or specific domestic issues, we identify options and recommend appropriate solutions that are capable of straightforward implementation.

Continued attempts to refine the regulation in this field to keep pace with current technology means that the next three years could see the greatest overhaul of European privacy law since the original Data Protection Directive of 1995. Our understanding of the implications of such potential changes enables us to advise in the necessary legislative context, both as it is and without losing sight of what the law might become.

Data privacy issues have become increasingly important in recent years. In recent years the Information Commissioner has acquired powers to award significant monetary penalties and proposals that would allow regulators to fine businesses up to 2 per cent of global turnover.

Our track record demonstrates our ability to manage data protection issues, whether stand-alone or as a part of a wider transaction or fact-pattern, and whether the matter in hand is in a non-contentious or contentious scenario. In each case, we work wherever necessary with regulators and other professionals to deliver first-class, efficient and commercially focused resolutions.
