Immigration / nationality

Overview

Due to its politically sensitive nature, immigration law is constantly changing, making it a challenging area for both businesses and private individuals to negotiate. Our extensive range of immigration and nationality services is designed to assist private individuals wishing to move themselves and their families to the UK for work or study purposes and to help UK businesses not only employ non-European nationals but also maintain compliance with UK immigration law. In addition, we advise on UK outbound applications and on European free movement issues.

For private individuals, we provide advice and assistance on the full range of UK immigration categories covering work, study, family, entrepreneur, investment and settlement routes as well as UK nationality applications. We use our years of experience and contacts within the UK immigration authorities to resolve complex matters in an efficient and straightforward manner.

Working with our private client team, we are able to provide a comprehensive tax planning and wealth management service.

For corporate clients, we advise on all aspects of immigration law that affect UK companies. This includes assisting companies who have never hired non-European nationals obtain the appropriate Sponsor Licence from the UK immigration authorities to enable them to do this. We not only provide advice on the application process, we also assist companies in ensuring they have the policies and procedures in place to comply with their Sponsor Licence obligations.

For businesses regularly transferring non-European employees to the UK, we provide strategic consultancy advice on managing and structuring international assignments, ensuring companies are able to efficiently transfer key people to the UK.

In conjunction with our employment team, we work on employee related issues, particularly those involving the law on the prevention of illegal working and TUPE situations. Our pensions, employee benefits and tax specialists help to structure contractual arrangements and remuneration packages and advise on UK tax issues. We also work with our corporate and M&A team, assisting companies setting up new operations in the UK, undertaking a significant restructure or those that are involved in a merger, takeover or divestment.

For education providers, we regularly work with universities and colleges, undertaking immigration compliance audits and advising on the policies and processes that must be in place to ensure full compliance with the Highly Trusted Sponsor criteria.
