Private client property 6 months to 4 years' PQE

We are seeking to recruit a solicitor into our private client property group.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious solicitor to further the development of a highly regarded and dynamic group.

The group

Our role is to advise our clients on all aspects of residential property transactions. This includes everything from the purchase and refurbishment of prime central London houses, the buying of premium apartments off plan and the forward purchase of bespoke luxury houses to the extension and restoration of country estates.

The value, complexity and timelines of these projects require sophisticated advice, which we tailor to the specific needs of our clients.

We don’t typically advise on property transactions in isolation. Building long-term relationships with our clients enables us to offer a co-ordinated approach to both their property investments and personal affairs. We often therefore advise on issues such as owning a multi-purpose portfolio, the impact on multi-generational succession planning and the personal tax and immigration considerations for non-UK residents or non-domiciliaries living in the UK. We draw on expertise from across our firm to provide market-leading advice on planning, construction, employment, tax or contentious matters and liaise with our clients’ other advisers.

Our residential property clients are predominantly business people, whether international investors, entrepreneurs, family businesses or landed estates, all of whom expect us to be responsive and commercial. Increasingly they require advice on non-residential issues, for example, buying an apartment building with retail space, or the acquisition of a corporate holding vehicle.

When making substantial real estate investments, confidence in the advice given is paramount. Particularly for those diversifying their portfolio, or international investors who are new to the UK, we are uniquely placed to guide clients through the peculiarities of investing in UK property. Our deep-rooted knowledge and experience means that we can swiftly identify legal and commercial risks and suggest practical and commercially driven solutions. 

The role

Duties will involve:

  • working with other members of the practice on a wide range of residential property matters involving prime Central London houses and apartments and country estates. Solicitors undertake the day to day management of files from file opening to billing, but always with individual supervision, support and involvement by partners and senior members of the team;
  • freehold and leasehold conveyancing work for high net worth individuals, family offices and property funds;
  • mortgage advice for buying and re-financing properties, advising banks, borrowers, guarantors and occupiers;
  • leasehold enfranchisement advice including lease extensions, collective enfranchisement and tenant rights of first refusal; and
  • advising on landlord and tenant law (short-term and long term leasehold interests).

Education and training:

  • participating in the departmental and firm-wide Education and Training programme; and
  • contributing to the development of the Firm’s know how.

Practice development:

  • assisting with and helping to present/promote internal and external seminars to clients and contacts: and
  • participating in practice development initiatives.

The candidate

They need to have strong academics and be confident, willing to take on responsibility (as client contact is encouraged) and wish to further their expertise and career through a combination of formal training and education, partner and peer support and working for clients. The candidate needs a strong instinct for the high levels of client service expected by our clients.

The right candidate will possess good post-qualification experience in UK domestic work. They need to be technically able, with an easy familiarity with relevant residential property law commensurate with their experience and will be a proactive and resilient problem solver.
