Michael Reiss Senior solicitor

Michael advises clients on a broad range of UK, EU and global antitrust matters, including cartels, abuse of dominance, merger control, state aid, competition litigation and general EU law across a wide number of industries. He also counsels clients on day-to-day competition law compliance in their commercial arrangements.

Michael helps businesses obtain clearance for mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures. Many of his matters are multi-jurisdictional, involving co-ordinating filings around the world. He has considerable experience of challenging cases cleared by way of targeted commitments.

In competition investigations, Michael assists clients from dawn raids to leniency applications to settlements and successful defences. He has also helped businesses bring competition law complaints against third parties, including complaints against EU member states for breaches of EU law.

Michael also litigates competition law matters – both damages actions and regulatory appeals – in the High Court, Competition Appeal Tribunal and on further appeal.

His experience spans sectors including TMT, energy, manufacturing, retail, leisure and transport. He has particular expertise in competition law and the online world.

Michael has been on a number of client secondments, including as in-house competition counsel at Diageo plc. He has also been seconded to leading competition practices in Brussels and Beijing.

Michael regularly publishes articles and speaks at conferences on competition law matters.
