Laura Uberoi Senior Counsel

Laura advises both lenders and borrowers with a range of domestic and international debt finance transactions, focusing on real estate investment and development finance.
Laura acts for a varied client base including lenders, borrowers, investors, developers, corporates and funds and has spent significant time on secondment to the real estate finance team at a leading global bank. Her work includes advising on real estate investment and development financings, private rented sector/build-to-rent financings, student accommodation financings, hotel financings, ESG principles and sustainability linked loans.
In 2017 she was elected to the Law Society Council, where she also sits on the management board, and in 2018 she was appointed President of Westminster & Holborn Law Society. She has taught at universities across the world, including University of Cambridge and the University of Melbourne and continues to lecture in her spare time. Before joining Macfarlanes, Laura worked with young people in detention facilities across the UK and separately on capital punishment cases for the Texas Defender Service in the USA. She also mentors students and junior solicitors through a variety of schemes, has advised through free legal advice centres for many years and is a judge for the Women in Law Awards.
Laura is a member of the Association of Real Estate Funds, the Commercial Real Estate Finance Council and the Investment Property Forum.
