Macfarlanes advises International Paper on its proposal to create two independent public companies

Macfarlanes is advising International Paper (NYSE: IP; LSE: IPC), a leader in sustainable packaging solutions, on its plan to create two independent, publicly traded companies: International Paper, which will be comprised of its current business in North America, and the EMEA Packaging business. 

The new EMEA Packaging company is expected to be listed on both the London Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange.

The Macfarlanes team is led by M&A Partners Harry Coghill and Tom Rose.

The transaction involves a cross-departmental team from across the firm, including: M&A Senior Counsel Mark Slade, Senior Associate Victor Chu and Associate Rhian Edwards; Tax Partner Jeremy Moncrieff, Senior Associate Beth Leggate and Associate Alec Siegert; Reward Partner Rasmus Berglund and Associate Clio Pialorsi; Finance Partner Kirstie Hutchinson and Senior Associate Owen Giles; Competition Partner Foad Hoseinian and Senior Associate Matthew Jones; Pensions Partner Faye Jarvis; and Employment Partner Hayley Robinson and Associate Amy Daubeney.

Macfarlanes is working closely on this transaction with International Paper’s US counsel, Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.
