Macfarlanes has advised Munich Re in relation to a c.€4bn longevity reinsurance agreement covering Dutch pension liabilities held by Achmea Pension & Life Insurance.
The transaction involves the reinsurance of longevity risk associated with Achmea's Dutch pension liabilities, with Munich Re acting as one of two reinsurers on the deal. The transaction represents a significant milestone in Munich Re's Global Longevity Expansion strategy. For Achmea, the agreement forms a central pillar of its long-term strategy, supporting further potential buy-outs and the continued optimisation of its investment portfolio.
