Senior Business Acceptance Analyst, Risk Management
I started my career at a large law firm, where I spent several years building a solid technical foundation in business acceptance. At Macfarlanes, because of the size of the firm, I’ve had the opportunity to take on a broader and more varied role. It’s come with more responsibility, as well as the chance to develop softer people skills and to build my confidence in dealing with senior colleagues.
In Risk Management, it’s our role to make sure the firm is compliant with all the regulations, laws and professional conduct codes that apply to legal work. This gives us a high-level overview of all the matters that are going on across the firm, which is fascinating. I’m also one of our team’s points of contact for Partners and fee-earners, and that kind of exposure is really valuable. It makes my work more interesting and rewarding too.
People are genuinely friendly and collaborative and want each other to succeed. Because we work with people across many different teams, you can see that same culture across the firm. Macfarlanes is big enough to take on really complex matters, but small enough that you feel you can get to know everyone. You don’t feel like you’re just a number or a cog in a wheel.
I’d highly recommend it. It’s a place where you’ll definitely work hard, but the environment around you is supportive and there’s a sense of balance. Although we’re a UK firm based mainly in one London office, our client base is international, so the work is always varied and interesting. It’s a great match for me.
