Cate specialises in commercial real estate, representing a variety of lending institutions, landlords and tenants, developers and institutional investment funds.

Her practice encompasses a wide range of commercial real estate matters, including property finance, the acquisition and disposal of investment property and property portfolios, the negotiation of commercial leases for both landlords and tenants and corporate support work.

Cate acts for a diverse range of clients from corporate tenants such as Hayfin, Tudor Capital and The Economist to private equity houses such as Alchemy, Graphite and Caledonia Investments to funds such as Supermarket Income REIT plc.

Cate’s sector experience includes offices, retail, industrial, leisure, healthcare and mixed-use. Cate advises on landlord and tenant matters across the retail, office and industrial sectors with a particular focus on acting for occupiers in relation to corporate office moves and prime London retail lettings.

She has experience acting for corporates and private equity houses on share and asset sales (both domestic and cross-border) where real estate is a material aspect, including advising on reorganisation and restructuring.

Cate has a particular interest in and extensive experience of complex real estate finance acting for both senior and mezzanine lenders as well as borrowers funding prime London developments such as the Atlas Building at Old Street, airport hotel portfolios as well as large complex assets such as The Merry Hill Shopping Centre. Cate excels at managing large transactions involving portfolios of properties.

  • Advising long-standing client Supermarket Income REIT plc on its acquisition of the Willow Brook Centre, Bristol for £84m.
  • Advising Intu Properties on completion of refinance and joint venture deal for Intu Derby shopping centre and the refinancing of the Merry Hill Shopping Centre.
  • Advising Epiris LLP on all real estate aspects of the acquisition of The Casual Dinging Group (Cafe Rouge, Bella Italia, Las Iguanas) by Epiris Fund II.
  • Advising NEX Plc on their agreement for lease of their prestigious new HQ at The Fruit & Wool Exchange.
  • Advising The Economist on the negotiation of lease of new premises at the Adelphi.
  • Advising Marex Spectron on their expansion of their HQ offices at 155 Bishopsgate.
  • Advising on all real estate aspects of the sale of Avant Homes to Berkeley DeVeer.
