Dan assists clients in a wide variety of employment-law areas including technical advisory work, contentious and pre-contentious matters and corporate transactions, with particular focus in the financial services and sports sectors.
Dan helps clients to reach commercial solutions to day-to-day employment issues, advising on exit discussions, employee remuneration and in relation to disciplinary and grievance matters. He also assists on the employment aspects of corporate matters.
On the contentious side Dan advises clients in relation to potential claims, including assisting with internal investigations, and has experience of bringing disputes to litigation in the Employment Tribunal.
Dan works with several private equity and venture capital clients, often assisting LLPs with the employment aspects of carry arrangements as well as general partnership and employment issues. He also works with clients in the sporting sector, with particular experience working with Formula 1 teams.
Experience
- Advising Racing Bulls Formula One Team on various employment matters, including recruitment and retention of key staff, negotiated exits and the protection of valuable confidential information and intellectual property.
- Advising Nine Two Foundation on its takeover bid for Manchester United Football Club.
- Advising a venture capital firm in relation to its employment and partnership matters, including on-boarding and exiting partners and advising on carry arrangements.
- Advising a global investment firm on its successful defence of a claim brought by a former employee, including preparing for and defending litigation in the Employment Tribunal along with various preliminary hearings and appeals to the Employment Appeal Tribunal. The Employment Tribunal merits hearing, which took place during the the Covid pandemic, required the coordination of detailed evidence given by witnesses in multiple jurisdictions and time zones.
- Advising the subsidiary of a household-name Plc on conducting an internal investigation into serious misconduct allegations raised against a member of the senior leadership team.
- Advising Jupiter Asset Management on its acquisition of the investment team (comprising both LLP members and employees) and £800m of mostly institutional assets of London-based global investment boutique Origin Asset Management.
