Ed specialises in international contentious trust, probate and succession disputes, high-value family disputes, and commercial litigation.

Ed regularly advises both corporate and private clients including businesses, multinational corporations, trustees, protectors, beneficiaries and high-net-worth individuals, both domestic and international, across a range of family-related, commercial and trust disputes. 

Ed has substantial experience as a litigator in both UK and international courts, including Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, BVI, Cayman, Gibraltar and Singapore.

Ed’s court and arbitration experience includes claims and disputes relating to breach of trust, trustee removal, the regularisation and restructuring of trusts, the blessing of trustees’ momentous decisions, court of protection and capacity issues, challenges to wills and Inheritance Act issues, joint venture issues, fraudulent misrepresentation, enforcement and worldwide freezing order issues; shareholder rights and company law issues, contractual interpretation and rectification.

Ed also has substantial experience of multi-jurisdictional competition cartel and conduct-related litigation.

Ed is a qualified solicitor-advocate in England and Wales and is also admitted in the Republic of Ireland.

Experience

  • Representing a Saudi-based client in English Court of Protection proceedings in the context of a wider international family and business dispute.
  • Advising beneficiaries in relation to the contentious restructuring of a complex non-UK trust structure concerning both the historic administration of the trusts and disputes between family members about their respective interests.
  • Advising trustees in relation to high-net-worth divorce and financial remedy proceedings concerning the trust's beneficiaries.
  • Advising a client in the defence of Inheritance Act proceedings for financial maintenance out of the client's late spouse's estate.
  • Securing a third-party disclosure order, worldwide freezing order, prohibitory injunction and passport order relating to a series of fraudulent payments.
  • Representing a private client to a four-week trial of fraudulent misrepresentation and breach of joint venture agreement claims.
  • Representing a global fund placement agent in its pursuit of contractual interpretation and rectification claims.
  • Resisting a jurisdiction challenge and securing a judgment in default of defence in a Bitcoin investment related dispute.
