Hilary Maurice leads the people strategy at Macfarlanes, helping to shape a culture where high performance and personal connection are equally prioritised. Hilary's approach is based around a core belief that if you look after your people, they will look after their clients.
For Hilary, culture is shaped from the top but is lived by everyone. Since joining in 2018, her mission has been to ensure Macfarlanes continues to remain a place where talented people at all levels want to stay, grow and lead.
As part of her philosophy, Hilary has led an initiative that explores how the firm supports wellbeing, embedding an approach that focuses on sustainability, resilience and leadership development. The aim is to ensure people can thrive, as well as support and develop the next generation of talent.
Learning and development sits at the heart of this approach. Hilary has worked with teams across the firm to create an environment where learning is seen as integral to growth at every level, for all our employees and Partners.
Hilary began her career in South Africa in the financial services sector. After relocating to the UK, she spent eight years at a magic circle law firm, ultimately leading HR for London and acting as a global champion for large-scale change projects. She draws on this international experience to bring a grounded but forward-thinking approach to Macfarlanes.
She is a qualified coach and mediator, and continues to support senior women in legal and financial services through both formal and informal networks.
