James is a Senior Associate in the Fund Formation group. He combines his in-house and private practice experience to provide commercial, practical and technical advice to fund managers looking to create efficiencies, synthesise information and manage risks.
James advises on good governance, new products and the post-launch stage of the fund lifecycle. This includes advice on product development such as updates to separately managed accounts, ensuring a strong control environment through obligation monitoring tools, and investor engagement such as transfers, consents and relationship matters.
Before joining Macfarlanes, James trained and qualified in the private funds team of an international City firm, specialising in fund formation and investor participation, before moving in-house to a global asset manager to focus on the establishment and ongoing operations of its infrastructure and private equity funds, including secondary transactions. His current practice focuses on credit and private equity products with a range of open and closed-ended structures, across several jurisdictions.
