Joshua advises a broad spectrum of clients across a selection of contentious matters, with particular experience in complex trust, real estate and tax disputes.

Joshua works with high-net-worth individuals, company directors, shareholders, domestic corporation and international corporations. 

His experience includes complex, multi-jurisdictional trust disputes, real estate disputes (including possession orders and commercial lease renewals), criminal defence, tax disputes (including disclosures to HMRC) and professional negligence. Joshua also has experience in complicated High Court litigation involving multiple parties.

Clients appreciate Joshua's pragmatic approach with one high-net-worth client describing him as the "ideal bewildered client's figure".

Alongside his fee-earning work, Joshua mentors students wishing to work in the legal industry through the Macfarlanes Legal Academy.

  • Advising a bank on a long-running dispute in relation to bonds issued by the Republic of Mozambique.
  • Advising an English company on an application for an account and enquiries of a Trust. Successfully obtaining each order sought and costs on the indemnity basis.
  • Advising ultra-high-net-worth individuals on a complex, multi-jurisdictional trust dispute involving a multi-billion dollar business.
  • Advising an executive on his defence following a charging decision made by HMRC / CPS.
  • Advising a Luxembourg-resident company on the renewal of an Oxford Street lease.
  • Advising three shareholders on their tax affairs and a disclosure to HMRC.
