Laurie has experience across a wide range of real estate transactions including development projects, acquisitions and disposals, commercial lettings (acting for both landlords and tenants) and joint ventures, with a particular focus on development projects.

Laurie’s practice includes advising landowners and developers in relation to commercial and residential development projects, corporate occupiers and investment clients on acquisitions, disposals and commercial letting transactions.

Laurie has experience of sales and purchases of large property portfolios (including care homes, shopping centres and hotels) and individual sites (whether for investment or development purposes), together with acting for both landlords and tenants on commercial leases.

Laurie’s clients include property investors, developers, corporates, private equity houses and financial institutions.

Experience

  • Advising Legal & General on the forward funding and development of a number of different sites for build-to-rent use, including: i) Roseberry Place, Bath which comprises of 171 residential units and 17,000 sq ft of retail space; ii) Newhall Square, Birmingham which comprises of 220 residential units and 7,500 sq ft of commercial space; iii) Central Quay, Cardiff to deliver 715 residential units; and iv) West Bar, Sheffield to deliver 368 residential units.
  • Advising on the acquisition and development of Oaklands South at Old Oak Common, London, in a joint venture with Genesis Housing Association. The development will consist of 605 new homes and 40,000 sq ft of commercial space.
  • Advising on the sale of the Kew Green Hotels Group, the owner and operator of over 50 hotels and the largest Holiday Inn franchisee in Europe, to HK CTS Metropark Hotels Co Ltd, a Chinese travel and leisure group.
  • Advising long-standing client Legal & General on the provision of a £265m debt facility for its build-to-rent fund with a lender club including Lloyds, NatWest and ING.
  • Advising on the acquisition and development of a number of former gasworks sites including the redevelopment of the former gasworks at Leven Road, Poplar for a residential-led mixed-use development, with a development value of circa £700m.
  • Advising EcoWorld, a Malaysian investment and development company, on its forward funding from Invesco Real Estate of two BTR sites at Kew Bridge and Barking. The schemes have a combined development value of over £400m, providing more than 1,100 new units for private rent, along with ground floor commercial space, a gym and social and work lounges for residents.
  • Advising a developer on its successful bid to become the joint venture partner with a local authority to deliver a residential-led mixed-use development, with a development value of circa £450m in Reading
