About

Leyla is a barrister in the litigation and dispute resolution group.

Leyla has experience across a broad range of contentious matters, including complex and high-value commercial, competition, trust and tax disputes, as well as related judicial review claims. The majority of Leyla’s work has an international element and recent experience includes proceedings before courts in the Cayman Islands, The Bahamas and Guernsey.

Leyla was recommended by the Legal 500 as a “key lawyer” in Tax Litigation and Investigations in 2021 and 2022.

Leyla was previously a stagiaire in the Chambers of Advocate General Sharpston at the Court of Justice of the European Union, where she assisted with drafting and research for the Advocate General’s Opinions on a number of substantive and procedural points of EU law.

Experience

  • Acting for Canaccord Genuity in professional negligence litigation brought by multiple investors in relation to various film financing arrangements.
  • Acting for Betgenius and Genius Sports in a standalone claim before the Competition Appeal Tribunal relating to the collection and supply of live football betting data, and jointly case-managed High Court proceedings for breach of confidence and unlawful means conspiracy.
  • Advising on the application of double taxation treaties and other international conventions.
  • Advising in relation to various employment and partnership taxation disputes, including in relation to the application of salaried member rules and issues arising out of settlement agreements.
