About

Oliver is a Senior Advisor whose main focus is matters of internal management in the Private Client department.

Oliver has considerable experience of advising clients on UK tax, estate planning and asset structuring. His clients have ranged from UK individuals, families and executives to European and US entrepreneurs and their structures, as well as trustees in multiple jurisdictions.

Having spent time on secondment with the trusts and estates group of a leading New York law firm, Oliver has expertise in advising on UK/US situations.

He has also worked with families to establish and reorganise international family office and asset-holding structures and put in place family constitutions.

Oliver is a member of STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners).

Experience

  • Co-ordinating a team of lawyers in five different jurisdictions to develop an integrated succession plan for an entrepreneur with a large European trading business.
  • Advising a family on business assets owned through a series of trusts and companies in multiple jurisdictions and reorganising those structures following recent UK legislative changes affecting UK resident family members.
  • Coordinating a significant distribution from a family trust to a charitable foundation, including a Court application to approve the transaction under the principle in Public Trustee v Cooper.
  • Reorganising a longstanding trust and foundation structure for the benefit of a family with members based in both the US and UK.
  • Advising on the tax treatment of a US investment structure for UK residents, including coordinating UK and US tax treatment to optimise the clients’ position.
