Victoria advises on a range of contentious matters, with a particular focus on tax disputes.
Victoria advises a variety of clients in relation to contentious tax issues, from HMRC enquiries and investigations to wider commercial disputes with tax elements. Her practice spans a range of indirect and direct tax matters, including the taxation of partnership remuneration arrangements, tax residency investigations and issues relating to the VAT treatment of supplies.
She has experience of proceedings and applications at all levels of the UK civil court system, from the First Tier Tax Tribunal to the Supreme Court. She is recognised for her ability to manage technically complex and document-heavy disputes efficiently and proportionately.
Victoria has a particular expertise in cases involving alleged professional negligence against advisors and in claims for judicial review. She also has an interest in cases of tax fraud and recent developments concerning corporate criminal liability.
Experience
- Advising a FTSE 100 Company in relation to a group litigation order involving approximately 300 claimants with respect to the VAT treatment of certain supplies and their compliance with EU law
- Acting for advisors in respect of claims by investors in various film financing arrangements.
- Advising a company in relation to a claim for judicial review concerning a VAT clearance obtained by a multinational business
- Advising an offshore investment company in relation to a HMRC investigation into its tax residency position
