Tania is a partner in the real estate team.

She has expertise across all aspects of commercial property. Tania has significant experience acting for both institutional funders and developers on forward funding and forward sale transactions. Tania has a particular focus on the Living sector and has worked on a multitude of complex BTR transactions and in recent years and led on suburban “single family” BTR schemes. In January 2022, Tania was appointed to the BPF’s BTR Committee, which is a testament to her work across the build to rent sector.

Tania spent nine months on secondment at Legal & General Capital where she worked on regenerations schemes across the regions and in the “later living” sector.

Tania was recognised recently in the UK Legal 500 directory 2023 with a client quoting "Tania Barnes is a rising star, an in-demand associate, knowledgeable, organised and drives deals forward." She was also acknowledged previously in the Legal 500 UK 2020 for being “very capable, calm and not letting anything slip on a large transaction”.

She also plays an active role in supporting and driving forward women and gender diversity initiatives within the real estate group.

Advising on its £150m purchase and forward funding with property developer Telford Homes to deliver an innovative BTR development in Stratford, London.

Advising on the funding and delivery of a £200m "Life and Mind Building" for the University of Oxford and the funding and development of a major science and innovation district at the University of Oxford’s Begbroke Science Park (both as part of L&G’s £4bn partnership with the University of Oxford).

Realstar Group

Acting on its £119.5m purchase and forward funding of Colindale Gardens development in north London as well as other BTR transactions for its “UNCLE” brand in Acton, Southall, Wembley and Leeds.

Berkeley Homes plc

Acting on the acquisition of National Grid’s 50% interest in St William Homes LLP for £412.5m together with the acquisition of 19 regeneration sites for £500m. Tania has worked for St William Homes LLP for many years acquiring and developing various former gasworks sites across London, including Beckton Gasworks for residential-led mixed use development.

Advising on the establishment of its new suburban (single family) BTR business and on various acquisitions and developments with a UK housebuilder for single-family homes for rent.

Advising on the acquisition of 70 Gracechurch Street in the City of London for c.£300m.
