Julia Chan Knowledge Lawyer
Julia is a knowledge lawyer in the corporate and M&A group and is responsible for developing and maintaining the group’s knowledge function and resources.
Julia worked in a Magic Circle firm and a major City firm as a transactional lawyer before joining Macfarlanes. Her legal background is in general corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, equity capital markets and group reorganisations. She has a particular interest in using legal technology to increase efficiency and provide innovative solutions for clients and colleagues.
In addition to her legal experience, Julia has significant business experience as an antique violin dealer, advising musicians, foundations, private collectors and music patrons on fine violins, violas, cellos and bows. She also advises private clients and art dealers on art law, and lectures at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Julia is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Her cultural background enables her to understand Chinese speaking clients and interact with independent law firms in Chinese speaking countries.
