Helen Sculthorpe Senior Counsel

Helen is senior counsel in the private client property group.

Helen has brought with her to the Macfarlanes Private Client Property team, more than thirty years’ experience in the property sector and has advised on a wide range of property transactions, specialising in residential sales and purchases. Many of these properties are located in and around prime central London, and are often purchased as long term family homes, but equally as investments. The transactions are very high in value, with high stakes for our clients under tight timeframes.

Helen also advises on rural residences, often with surrounding land, outside of London mainly in the South of England.

As many buyers arrange finance for their purchases, Helen frequently acts in mortgage transactions. We have excellent contacts with those able to provide financing options for our clients. Helen’s clients are both UK and overseas individuals, trusts and companies, often with family offices, and for whom confidentiality is important. All frequently have concerns about the impact of cross-border taxation, and tax mitigation generally. In suitable cases, Helen works with our corporate team in relation to the sale and purchase of companies holding property assets (SPVs).

In addition to sales and purchases, Helen advises generally on landlord and tenant matters and enfranchisement. Most commonly, enfranchisement concerns lease extensions and the purchase of the freehold for a leasehold houses.

Qualified in England and Wales, 1986.
