Macfarlanes announces six new partners and one new Senior Counsel

Macfarlanes has announced six new internal partner promotions with effect from 1 May 2016.

The new partners are Peter Abbott (Tax), Nick Barnes (Commercial Real Estate), Alexander Green (Corporate M&A), Justin Hope (Corporate M&A), James Popperwell (Litigation) and Gideon Sanitt (Litigation).  The new senior counsel is Sam Brooks (Investment Management).

Charles Martin, Senior Partner, comments: “We are fortunate and excited to have so many talented lawyers coming up for promotion to partner or senior counsel at the same time and in areas in which we are seeing strong client demand.

“This is a large group by historic standards but one that is uncharacteristically and disappointingly lacking in women.

“On a more positive note, the majority of these lawyers trained at the firm, a further vindication of our policy of nurturing home grown talent.  We are amongst a small group of firms that has increased trainee intake over recent years.  We supplement that carefully with outstanding lawyers from other firms who are attracted by our distinctive offering at a slightly later stage in their careers.

Dan Lavender, recently appointed Practice Partner, said: “The shape of the practice and the demographic makeup of our team of lawyers is constantly evolving.  Young home grown partners help to revitalise the partnership.  We can already see the impact that this generation is having on the firm and expect to see much more from them over the coming years.”
