08 October 2020

Macfarlanes has advised long-standing client Stanhope and its joint venture partners, Mitsui Fudosan and AIMCo, on the sale of their mixed-use White City Place development in West London to Canadian property management company Cadillac Fairview.

Macfarlanes has been involved with White City Place since 2015 when the firm acted on the joint venture’s purchase of the 17-acre site from the BBC. Since then, the Macfarlanes real estate team has assisted with the refurbishment of two of the main buildings and a number of major lettings to prominent companies including 54,000 sq ft of office space to multinational pharmaceutical company Novartis, a new European headquarters for Hong Kong-listed fashion brand sister companies Global Brands Group (GBG) and Li & Fung, and the London base for Net-a-Porter.

The Macfarlanes team for this matter was led by real estate partner Dan Marriott and corporate and M&A partner Justin Hope with assistance from corporate and M&A senior solicitor Julian Grant, corporate and M&A solicitor Andrew Wheelhouse and real estate solicitor Georgia Krell. Tax advice was provided by tax and reward senior counsel Kirsten Prichard Jones and senior solicitor Laura Foley.

Dan Marriott comments: “It has been a pleasure working with Stanhope, Mitsui and AIMCo on this innovative development from initial purchase through to final sale.”
