Macfarlanes has advised long-standing client Legal & General on its first streamlined longevity insurance arrangement for a smaller defined benefit pension scheme covering around £300m of liabilities. The firm also assisted with the associated back to back reinsurance with global reinsurer SCOR.

The Macfarlanes team for this matter was led by insurance partner Andrew Barton with assistance from insurance solicitor Madison Kaur. Further advice was provided by pensions partner Camilla Barry, finance partner Richard Fletcher and commercial solicitor Roisín Cregan.

Andrew Barton comments: “We are delighted to have assisted on this innovative de-risking solution, the first of its kind for Legal & General.”
