Sophia acts on a broad range of financing transactions, including real estate finance, fund finance, acquisition finance, leveraged finance and structured finance.

Sophia advises clients including banks, alternative lenders and borrowers on a range of domestic and cross border transactions. Her work predominantly involves financings in relation to the investment and development of real estate assets, refinancings, corporate restructures, financings to purchase debt, reinsurance transactions, acquisition financings and financings for fund structures.

Sophia is a member of the City of London Solicitors’ Company (CLSC) and is Vice Chairman of the Whittington Committee. The Committee is tasked with encouraging the support of junior lawyers in the activities of CLSC and organising social and charitable events for the CLSC, such as the Lord Mayors Show.

Isle of Man incorporated borrower

Advising a borrower and their group companies in relation to a £163m facility agreement to refinance existing indebtedness and fund the acquisition of additional properties into the portfolio.

Asset management company

Advising an asset management company on a £196m senior and mezzanine financing in relation to the acquisition of a commercial property in Canary Wharf.

Corporate restructure

Advising the borrower and their group companies in relation to a corporate restructuring and an amendment and restatement agreement in relation to an existing £205m facility agreement relating to UK residential and commercial property with a middle eastern bank.

Reinsurance transaction

Advising an English closed life insurance business on a collateralised reinsurance transaction, involving the transfer of pension fund longevity risk to a US insurance company. This transaction along with others completed alongside it were amongst the largest of their type in the market in recent times.

Global investment firm

Advising a global investment and asset management firm in relation to its first structured financing, involving a €400m facilities agreement for the purposes of purchasing receivables.

Alternative investment manager

Advising a fund set up by an alternative investment manager in relation to revolving credit facilities in EUR and GBP for general corporate purposes, including the purchasing of receivables.
