Macfarlanes advises Quilam Capital on strategic partnership with Wafra Capital Partners

Macfarlanes has advised specialist investment firm Quilam Capital on a new strategic partnership with US investment firm Wafra Capital Partners Inc (WCP), a joint venture, branded Quilam Special Opportunities Limited.

Quilam Capital specialises in lending to and investing in businesses in the speciality finance sector, offering both debt and equity solutions up to £25m. With WCP’s additional experience and expertise, the new vehicle plans to deploy several hundred million pounds over the next five years in the UK and European speciality finance markets.

Macfarlanes assisted Quilam Capital throughout the establishment of the joint venture, including advising on regulatory considerations, the incorporation, structuring and shareholder arrangements, as well as the implementation of the senior funding from WCP.

The Macfarlanes team was led by finance partner Andrew Perkins with assistance from senior solicitor Adam Caines. Corporate and M&A advice came from partner Justin Hope and solicitor Amelia Walsh, with tax expertise provided by tax and reward partner Jeremy Moncrieff and solicitor Andrew Cromb and regulatory input from financial services partner Paul Ellison.

Andrew Perkins comments: “We are delighted to have assisted long-standing clients Kieran McSweeney and Marc Sefton on this interesting transaction for Quilam Capital, a partnership which will see the company continue to thrive over the coming years.”
