Macfarlanes advises Legal & General on acquisition and forward funding of iconic BTR site in Leeds

Macfarlanes has advised long-standing client Legal & General on acquisition and forward funding of Tower Works, an iconic build-to-rent (BTR) site in Leeds city centre on behalf of its Build to Rent Fund (BTR Fund).

The Tower Works is a 245 residential unit consisting of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, all built sympathetically around three Grade II listed towers and other listed industrial buildings to preserve the unique local history and character.

The Macfarlanes team was led by real estate partner Anthony Burnett Scott and construction partner Angus Dawson with assistance from real estate senior solicitor Tania Barnes, real estate solicitor Erin Gilliland and construction senior solicitor Tom Parsons. Planning expertise was provided by real estate senior solicitor Hayley Cole and funds advice was provided by investment management solicitor Emma Garnham.

Anthony Burnett Scott comments: “We are pleased to have advised Legal & General on its BTR Fund’s second project in Leeds, having previously acted on the neighbouring Mustard Wharf site. This is an excellent example of regeneration whilst preserving Leeds’ industrial history.”
