Richard advises on a range of trust, estates and commercial disputes, as well as high-value corporate and charity law claims. He has experience acting in the English courts (including High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court) and in offshore jurisdictions (including the Privy Council).

Richard provides litigation and dispute resolution advice to individuals, trustees, corporations and charities. He has advised on a range of trust and estate claims, including breaches of trust, asset protection and trust-busting, trustee and personal representative removals, rectification and rescission applications, challenges to wills (and other probate claims) and a number of high-profile charity cases.

Richard has acted in many international jurisdictions, including Cayman Islands, BVI, Bahamas, Jersey and the US. He has experience in various sectors, including art, pensions, employee benefits and retail.

Fiduciary duties in charitable structures

Advising the lead Respondent in the Supreme Court decision providing authority on whether members of charitable companies owe fiduciary duties and the extent of the court’s jurisdiction over fiduciaries.

International corporate service provider

Advising an international corporate service provider in a potential $7bn claim against it by a fund of funds for failing to detect the fraudulent Madoff scheme.

Court proceedings in relation to high net worth charity's purpose

Advising the trustee of a charity with over £500m in assets in the successful High Court application to amend the purposes of the charity.

Removal of personal representative of an estate

Advising the respondents in the successful application to remove a personal representative of an estate worth in excess of £100m.

Group of offshore foundations

Advising a group of offshore foundations and their subsidiaries in a fraud claim worth over £50m.

US charity

Advising a US educational charity in a dispute with its trustee leading to the recovery of $80m from the trust.

Claim for professional negligence

Advising clients in a multi-million dollar claim for professional negligence against a leading US law firm.

Advising trustee of EBT of leading financial service provider

Advising the trustee of an EBT worth over £100m in a dispute against the employer in relation to historic taxes.

Acting as Process Agent in relation to a BVI claim in which the Privy Council confirmed the roles and duties of directors and registered agents.
