Macfarlanes advises owners of Memoria on sale to Darwin Alternatives

Macfarlanes has advised the owners of Memoria, a UK developer and operator of high-quality, private crematoria and memorial parks on its sale to investment management company Darwin Alternatives.

The transaction will see Darwin Alternatives acquire a portfolio of five wholly-owned crematoria, four further crematoria under management, two sites with planning consent for crematoria and burial grounds, and online funeral director and funeral-related financial services company Low Cost Funeral Ltd.

The Macfarlanes team was led by corporate and M&A partner Howard Corney with assistance from senior solicitor Felicity Powell and solicitor Jonathan Höck. Tax expertise was provided by partner Jeremy Moncrieff and senior solicitor Laura Foley and employment advice came from senior solicitor Chris Boyle.

Howard Corney comments: “We are very pleased to have advised on this transaction which provides a platform for Memoria to develop its vision of delivering the best possible standards of service in the cremation sector.”
