Andy acts on a wide range of substantial international and domestic arbitration, litigation and adjudication matters. He has a particular expertise in complex construction, engineering and real estate disputes and related professional negligence issues.

Andy has represented a wide spectrum of clients, including state governments, financial institutions, large developers, high-net-worth individuals, professional consultants, contractors and sub-contractors.

He has advised on many of the most high-profile development projects in the UK over the last few years, together with significant international infrastructure projects. His experience includes office, residential, hotel and industrial developments, hospitals, schools, power plants, airports, roads, and off-shore oil and gas projects.

Andy’s arbitration work has included major international ICC and LCIA arbitrations, including appearing as advocate. He also has extensive experience of alternative dispute resolution procedures including mediation, expert determination and early neutral evaluation.

Andy is a member of the Society of Construction Law, the Adjudication Society and the Property Litigation Association.

S&T v Grove

S&T(UK) Ltd v Grove Developments Ltd [2018] EWCA Civ 2448: representing the successful claimant, Grove Developments, in the High Court and Court of Appeal in one of the most significant construction law cases of recent years, concerning “smash & grab” adjudications and the application of the statutory payment regime.

Aggregate Industries

Acting for Aggregate Industries UK Limited in a substantial dispute concerning works carried out on the Sheffield Streets Ahead PFI project, involving several adjudications and litigation in the Technology and Construction Court (reported as Amey LG Ltd v Aggregate Industries UK Ltd [2019] EWHC 3488 (TCC)).

An airport project

Acting for a Middle Eastern government in relation to a c$300m ICC arbitration claim brought under an amended FIDIC contract by a contractor following the termination of their employment on an airport project. The dispute involved questions of extensions of time, defective work, civil engineering and valuation.

A national gallery

Advising the employer for major extension works to a national gallery concerning claims for extensions of time and additional payment brought by trade contractors under a construction management procurement structure. The matter involved complex issues of structural engineering and design coordination.

A London hotel

Acting for a developer on a series of high value adjudication proceedings brought by the contractor appointed to construct a London hotel in relation to claims worth approximately £40m for extensions of time and additional payment under a JCT form of contract.

A housebuilder

Acting for a housebuilder in pursuing claims against the architect and cladding subcontractor relating to the specification, detailed design and construction of cladding to a large residential development, including issues of compliance with Building Regulations requirements as to fire safety.

Onshore wind farm

Advising a project company in relation to a dispute with its EPC contractor in connection with the construction of an onshore wind farm in South Africa on an amended FIDIC Yellow Book, including issues of delay and compliance with specification.
